Ode to Freedom – a poem by dad

From the window of our home in Hartola, Uttarakhand

Bright is the day out there,
but I sit in the dark inside.
Green is the world beyond these bars
Warm is the sun, but fails to warm the air inside.
Freedom, I cry for you
Freedom I yearn for
Soon perhaps…soon I will play in the sun
…soon I will touch the blades and wild flowers
…soon I will chase the butterflies
Until then, I will wait..
…wait for the sound of your steps
…wait for the click of the lock
… wait for you to say: ‘Come let’s go outside and play Katie!’
