As we seek to increase the number of books in our library at Katie’s Abode, Hartola with some interesting and informative books, Sivashish Thakur’s Symphony of the Savannah caught our attention. Yes, this coffee table book has nothing to do with Uttarakhand in general or Hartola in particular, yet the writer’s passion in wildlife is evident and that made us go for the book.
Although the writer is a very dear friend of ours since decades, that has nothing to do with me writing this praise-worthy post on his recent book or even making the book available for our guests to read.
Sivashish Thakur is a senior journalist from Assam and is known by everyone in the North-East for his love for environment, wildlife and photography. His passion and genuine concern for all creatures great and small is known to all who know him.
Recently his passion took him to Africa where he spent a considerable time in the midst of wild – and thus the Symphony of the Savannah is a scintillating narrative of an African Safari by him.
The pages of this book narrate extensively his visit to Maasai Mara, Amboseli, Lake Nakuru and Lake Naivasha, where he truthfully captured the best of Wild Africa. The reader is transported to the African Savannah through every page.
If you are pressed on time at least read the chapter on the Maasai tribe which I personally would say is an exciting addition to the book.
A must read for everyone even if you are not much of a traveler or a wildlife enthusiast. Who knows after reading Sivashish Thakur’s Symphony of the Savannah you might.
Safe to say that the book in our library is worth your trip to Katie’s Abode, Hartola.
