This is not just any other bed & breakfast! This is not a hotel or resort! This is the result of an untiring passion of two people – an inspirational story of my hooman parents!

Passion, nothing else!

Just like Howard Schultz, the erstwhile CEO of Starbucks had once said, ‘When you’re surrounded by people who share a passionate commitment around a common purpose, anything is possible,’ Katie’s Homestay too is the sum-result of my parents’ passion for travelling and their commitment to give me a better life.

Pet rules for the furry visitors

Welcoming every doggy to come and stay with your pet parents in our home. Perfectly ok to stay with your parents in the room as long as you respect certain house rules that are in best interest for all..

How my home took shape

Although our home was built very recently, my parents wanted it to blend with the other houses of the village and not to stand out as an eyesore city mansion.

It took a lot of effort from my parents to convince the architect not to get carried away and stick to the plan of resembling a village home with flush interiors.

The layout of the house was meticulously done to minimise damage to existing mountain terraces and fruit trees during the construction.

The property has 4 rooms that accommodate 2 guests each and a family room that accommodates 6 guests. All rooms have attached bathrooms.

Enjoy Fresh Local Produce

I can definitely tell you the delight of devouring some fresh chicken. It’s tasty for sure. With the villagers growing different types of veggies, pulses, etc. it’s a habit that my parents follow of bringing home everything (AND EVERYDAY) straight from the farms to the kitchen. And if I’m not feeling too lazy I accompany them to the farms too.

Responsible stay at Katie's Abode, Hartola Homestay

The leash you can do

Be kind to the environment. Remember, being a responsible traveler is all about leaving a positive impact on not only the locality, but also the people who live in the places we choose to visit. Here are some guidelines to ensure your holiday in our home in Hartola has a positive impact on the locality.

The common areas

You have access to our entire home except the rooms of other guests. We have a spacious sitting room with a fireplace where you can enjoy a good book from my mom’s library sipping a cup of coffee. There is a television here although I don’t recommend wasting your time staring at it. You can savour the meals in the dining hall or in the adjoining sit-out area enjoying the beauty of the calm environment of Hartola.

Best place to be for new years with friends and family Our stay at Katie's abode was a memorable stay for us , we were a group of friends with family and kids . The stay was very comfortable .The caretaker was a special add on, he cooked very simple yet tasty food matching our needs . And not to forget the view this place has to offer
We loved it here! Wanted to share a beautiful experience that we had at KATIE'S ABODE, a homestay in Hartola, Uttarakhand. So, the owners - Deepa Baruah and Dhrubajyoti Baruah and of course Katie Baruah - have been exceptionally fabulous at making our stay memorable in so many ways. Their home is beautiful, warm and a perfect retreat from city life. Each room has a theme and is spacious, warm and tasteful with a beautiful view of the hills. The common areas as done up brilliantly with books, a fireplace, TV abd other amenities. Their caretakers, Joshi ji, Kamal and other boys, fed us fresh, home-cooked meals which was so satiating and delightful that we keept looking forward to each meal 😊. And, they supplemented those with many cups of adrak waali chai and fresh fruits from their orchards like peaches, apricots and plums! We went for walks and to pluck fruit with the Deepa and Katie Baruah to the village nearby and for chai and maggie through those lovely pakhdandis that made our trip so totally worth it. Both Dhruv and Deepa (and Katie) are extremely warm and loving people, and they welcome pets too. My children were so delighted with this experience that they just want us to spend at least a week every quarter @katiesabode ! Adding some pics for everyone to see what the place and people really are!

Perfect Little paradise Amazing Location, very nicely done rooms with a fireplace in common area and the warmest hosts. Dhruv and Deepa have created a perfect cozy little gateway. Katie's abode is the ideal place for people looking for a boutique homestay with the best views and amazing homely food.
Charming homestay, gracious hosts in Hartola, Mukhteshwar We visited Mukhteshwar in April and on one of our wanderabouts we came across this charming homestay in Hartola, hosted by the lovely couple Deepa and Dhruv and their beautiful dog Katie. It has clear and beautiful views of the Himalayas and the homestay itself has a warm, inviting and cosy atmosphere. Deepa and Dhruv go out of their way to make sure their guests are well looked after. If you are looking for a holiday/ workation in the mountains, I would definitely recommend that you try 'Katie's Abode'.
Soulitude in Himalaya Kafie's Abode is designed for long stay, luxury as well as budget, which reflects class, style & simplicity. And for those who visit, Kumaun the views of Himalayan peaks are must from window or any seat-out area. This is such one place where we could see all the front peaks of Garhwal & Kumaun Himalaya. It's for those who seeks silence, who wants to write or read, who wants to go out for walk in absence of vehicle horns, who wants to spend quality time with their loved ones and alike. Our stay was short as we found this place pretty late during our last phase of the trip. The care-taker, Joshiji is humble and kind man who will look after the hospitality very well. This place deserves another visit some time soon.

Pollution-free Diwali with family We had visited Katie's Abode during the Diwali long weekend with my parents, husband and 12 year old son. We really loved the cottage and with no other guests felt like at home. The house is tastefully done and the food cooked by the caretaker were superb. The last one km road is kuccha so one have to drive slow. but then the best views come after a difficult drive isn't it. We saw the peaks very clearly during our entire stay.

The perfect homestay—Gazing at snow-capped mountains, sipping a hot cuppa in a quiet, sunlit balcony—What more?! We were the second guests to stay at this lovely and cozy homestay. And we were thrilled about that too! I came here with my mother, father and grandparents. I loved the view of the Himalayas and the sunrise and the sunset. We celebrated Katie's Abode's first Diwali here. Was lots of fun. We made nice rangolis and also lit lots of diyas and candles. We went out for many walks. We collected red leaves and flowers. I always enjoyed leading the way.Joshiji, the caretaker, made excellent food for us and many cups of hot tea for the grown-ups (because it was very cold).I loved Katie's Abode and would like to come here again.PS: In fact, I have already been there twice and am planning to go again soon!Lots of loveAngad (7 years old)
