As the host of Katie’s Abode Hartola, I often get asked a simple question: “Why should we choose your place?”
But today, instead of listing features or amenities, I want to answer this honestly, as someone who lives here, hosts here, and truly believes in what this space offers.
Because Hartola Is Still Peaceful (And That’s Rare Now)
Hartola is a small, quiet village in the Nainital district, close to Mukteshwar and Nathuakhan, but thankfully far from crowds, traffic, and commercial noise.
If you’re looking for:
- Silence instead of honking
- Forests instead of shops
- Stars instead of streetlights
Then Hartola will feel like a breath of fresh air.
Our homestay sits overlooking a forest-covered valley, with Himalayan peaks visible on clear days. Mornings here begin with birds, not alarms.
Because Katie’s Abode Hartola Is Meant for People, Not Tourists
We didn’t create Katie’s Abode as a hotel. Rather we created it as a home where guests could truly live in.
That’s why:
- You get the entire cottage for your group
- There are multiple sit-outs to read, talk, or just do nothing
- The dining area opens into the outdoors
- The kitchen is fully functional, not locked away
- Families, friends, and small groups feel comfortable here because the space is designed for togetherness.
Because Group Stays Deserve Space and Privacy
Many guests visit us for birthdays, reunions, anniversaries, or quiet celebrations.
And our cottage works well for groups because:
- Bedrooms are spread across floors for privacy
- Common areas are large and warm
- There is space for conversations that go late into the night
- You don’t feel cramped and most importantly, you don’t feel rushed.
- You feel at home.
Because Winter Evenings Here Are Special
If you visit during colder months, you will understand why guests talk about our winter evenings.
A lit fireplace indoors, an outdoor bonfire under the stars, warm blankets, hot meals, and quiet conversations; these are moments people remember long after they leave.
- It is not about luxury.
- But it is about comfort.
Because We Welcome Pets Like Family
Katie’s Abode is named after our most loved pet, Katie. She has a naughty sister, Chloe with whom she shares and roams every corner of the cottage.
So being pet-friendly isn’t a policy, it’s personal.
We welcome toilet-trained pets and understand that for many families, a holiday isn’t complete without them.
Seeing dogs relax on the patio or nap in the sun is a common sight here.
Because Food Is Simple, Fresh, and Honest
We don’t run a restaurant. We serve home-style meals, prepared with care, using local ingredients whenever possible. And when it comes to food, flexibility is our mantra.
Guests can:
- Choose per-meal dining
- Or bring their own groceries and use our cooking service
Meals are unpretentious, filling, and comforting, just like food should be in the mountains. All guests have to do is adhere to the meal timings to help our team to serve hot meals.
Because We Value Guests, Not Just Bookings
Some guests come for a weekend and return every year. Some come as guests and leave as friends.
We try to keep things transparent, whether it’s clear tariffs, honest communication, no hidden surprises. In a nutshell, ‘What you see is what you get!’
A Final Word from Me
If you are looking for luxury resorts, shopping streets, or nightlife, Hartola may not be for you, and Katie’s Abode is especially not for you.
But if you are looking for:
- Quiet mountain mornings
- Meaningful time with your people
- A homestay that feels lived-in and loved
Then I truly believe Katie’s Abode Hartola is worth visiting.
We’d be happy to host you.
